Dental implants offer an option for people of all ages that have badly diseased or missing teeth or are wearing dentures. Implants work as the artificial equivalent of a tooth’s root. After tooth loss, a dental implant is one of the closest restorative alternatives to a natural tooth available.
Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of a material like porcelain, placed on the top of a tooth to restore natural appearance of a tooth while bridges are natural-looking dental appliances that can replace a section of missing teeth.
A denture is a removable replacement for missing teeth and adjacent tissues. It is made of acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. Complete dentures replace all the teeth, while a partial denture fills in the spaces created by missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position.
Root canal treatment is designed to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal, prevent reinfection of the tooth and save the natural tooth. When a patient undergoes a root canal, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed.
It is important to seek regular periodontal care at least two times a year. The gum tissue and bone serve as both an esthetic and functional component of our mouths. If not cared for properly bacteria can build-up eventually leading to gum tissue that may be red or swollen, bleeds easily, pulling away from the teeth, bone loss, and eventually tooth loss.
When restoration procedures such as root canal therapy, crowns, or fillings are not enough to save a tooth, it may need to be pulled, or extracted. Before a tooth is extracted, the area surrounding the tooth is numbed with a topical/and or injectable anesthetic.
